I'm guessing because that would get confusing with other previous usernames.

For example - it's more confusing to remember that this one from Maplestory is Oddball464 and this one from another forum is Oddball444 and this one is just Oddball.

It would become very annoying very quickly.

Exactly. Oddball464 was my first username and it stuck ever since. And I'm not changing it
